Marek Stachowski

Marek Stachowski ( born March 21, 1936 in Piekary Śląskie; † 3 December 2004 in Kraków ) was a Polish composer. From 1993 to 1999 and from 2002 to 2004 he was rector of the Academy of Music in Krakow.

Biography

Born three years before the outbreak of the second world war, had to hide from the Nazis in his family. 1952 began his musical training at the State Music School in Stanisław Czerny ( piano). In 1962 he married Maria Jabłońska. From 1963 - 1968 he studied with Krzysztof Penderecki at the Music Academy Krakow (then Państwowa Wyższa SzkoĹ Muzyczna, State Academy of Music ). At his alma mater, he had from 1967 to a composition class. Many of his students are sustainable active in the Polish music scene, and others Wojciech Widłak, Maciej Jabłoński, Kazimierz Pyzik or Jacek Wiktor Ajdinovic.

The Academy of Music in Krakow maintains his memory postmortem with the annual Marek Stachowski Composition Competition ( first held in 2008) and has renamed their chamber music hall in Marek Stachowski room. In addition, the Stowarzyszenie Artystów Polskich (Society of Polish Artists) has worked with the city of Krakow at a ceremony in the form of a street name change.
