The international career of Marek Švec began in 1994 with the participation in the European Championships in Greco-Roman. Style in Athens in the light heavyweight division. He reached it a 14th place. Also in the next international championships succeeded him not to place themselves in front of the field. So he came in the 1994 World Cup in Tampere on the 20th place in the European Championship 1995 in Besançon on the 10th Place and in the 1995 World Championships in Prague on the 20th Place. At the 1996 European Championships in Budapest, he achieved his best result so far with a seventh place.

In 1996 he took in Atlanta for the first time participate in the Olympics. He arrived there on a good 8th place. He had to fight hard for this place with victories over Rozy Rejepow from Turkmenistan, Incio Vasquez, Peru, Moustafa Hussain from Egypt and Reynaldo Rudolfo Pena Borroto, Cuba. Against Alyaksandr Sidarenka from Belarus and Derrick Waldroup from the United States he was defeated.

At the European Championships in 1997 in Kouvola, he triumphed over Pius border, Germany, Bakuri Gogitidse, Georgia and Əsəd Əliyev from Azerbaijan and lost to Taimuraz Edischeraschwili from Russia, which brought him to 8th place. At the World Championships the same year in Breslau, he was defeated by Maik Bull man from Germany and Mikael Ljungberg from Sweden and only came on the 21th Place.

At the World Cup 1998 in Gävle, Sweden him then scored the first big success of his career. With victories over Pajo Isosević from Yugoslavia, Gennady Tschaidsche from Georgia and Mikael Ljungberg he came to the final, where he defeated but against Gogi Koguaschwili from Russia to.

In 1999, there were at the European Championships in Sofia for Marek Švec a setback because he lost there against Dawid Saldadse from Ukraine and Andrzej Wronski from Poland, left and came only on the 20th Place. Much better it ran for him at the World Championships this year in Athens, because he won there over Igor Grabovetski from Moldova, Syarhey Lischtwan from Belarus and Josip Pavičić from Yugoslavia. After a defeat against Hakkı Bazaar from Turkey, he came on the 8th Place.

In 2000 Marek Švec again took part in the Olympic Games. But in Sydney, he retired after losing to Garrett Lowney, USA and Gogi Koguaschwili from an early stage and reached the 18th place. A small consolation for him was then towards the end of 2000, winning the World University Championship title at the World Universities Championship in Tokyo Marek Sitnik, Poland and Mehmet Ozal, Turkey.

In 2001 Marek Švec reached at the World Championships in Patras with wins over Ežerskis Mindaugas from Lithuania and Karam Mohammed Gaber Ibragim from Egypt and a defeat against Petru Sudureac from Romania an excellent 5th place. In 2002 he reached the seventh place, respectively, both at the European Championships in Seinäjoki / Finland and at the World Championships in Moscow. It is worth noting that reach him in Moscow victories over Petru Sudureac and Dawid Saldadse.

Little was successful for him in 2003. At the European Championships in Belgrade, he came after only two defeats on the 12th Place and in the World Championships in Créteil, he won via Roman Medina from Slovakia, but then dropped out after a defeat against Mirko Englich out of Germany and only came on the 21th Place.

In 2004 it was not possible Marek Švec to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Athens. Even more regrettable, since he was actually in great shape, like winning the bronze medal at the European Championships in Haparanda proved. He won there over the World Champion of 2002 Mehmet Ozal and Roman Meduna, then lost Syarhey Lischtwan and fought his way to a victory over the strong Ukrainian Dawid Saldadse the 3rd place.

In 2005 he occupied at the European Championships in Varna the 5th Place and in the World Championships in Budapest the 10th Place. The decisive defeats he had to tolerate from Hamza Yerlikaya from Turkey and Justin Ruiz of the United States. Was very successful for Marek Švec 2006. He won this year at the European Championships in Moscow with wins over Robert Petrosyan of Armenia and Rami Hietaniemi from Finland, a defeat against Mychajlo Nikolayev from Ukraine and a win over Schata Narmanja from Belarus, bronze medal. Even more successful he was at the World Championships in Guangzhou / China, because there he struggled with wins over Kenzo Kato from Japan, Theodoros Tounousidis, Greece, the Olympic champion and multiple world champion Hamza Yerlikaya and the European champion from 2003 Rama Nosadse from Georgia to in the final in which he expresses surprise the man Heiki Nabi of Estonia succumbed shortly after points. He was the second time Vice World Champion.

After a somewhat disappointing ninth place finish at the 2007 European Championship in Sofia, which is due to a defeat against Balazs Kiss of Hungary in the second fight, then won Marek Švec at the 2007 World Championships in Baku with a 3rd place again a medal. After a defeat in the first round against Rama Nosadse he defeated then successively Justin Ruiz, Jimmy Lidberg of Sweden, Elis Guri from Albania and Daigoro Timoncini from Italy.

At the 2008 European Championships in Tampere Marek Švec came with a win over Theodoros Tousounidis and a defeat against Jimmy Lidberg on the 11th Place. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 reach Marek Švec victories over Dintschew Kaloyan from Bulgaria and the reigning world champion of 2007 Rama Nosadse. But in the third fight he lost to the immensely strong Russians Aslanbek Chuschtow on points. Also in the battle for 3rd place and therefore the bronze medal he suffered against asset Mambetow from Kazakhstan a point defeat. He reached the ungrateful because loose 5th place medal. The fair sport Marek Švec would have to vouchsafe the win an Olympic medal.
