The Maremma is a native of the Maremma in southern Tuscany horse breed that was once used as a carriage and horse herdsmen, but is more developed in recent years in terms of a saddle horse.

Exterior

The external appearance is not very impressive in this classic " peasant " economic picture. They are of medium size with a compact physique. The head is often Roman nose, the neck is made ​​short and weak. The hindquarters is weakly muscled.

Breeding history

Stock

The stock of Maremmano horses has increased in recent years. Most horses are kept in the province of Grosseto and Viterbo. Their number in 2005 was about 4,000 horses, 2,000 mares which are distributed to a total of 1,200 holders.
