Margaret Beckett

Margaret Mary Beckett DBE, née Jackson ( born January 15, 1943 in Ashton -under- Lyne, Lancashire ) is a British politician ( Labour ) and was from 2006 to 2007, Foreign Minister in the government of Tony Blair. In the government of Gordon Brown from 2008-2010, she was Minister for housing.

Life

The trained Metal Lurgin comes from a Catholic- Irish parents and was first at the University of Manchester working. Since 1970 she has been politically active. Between 1974 and 1979 she was Labour MP for the constituency of Lincoln and worked part-time at the Ministry of matters overseas. Subsequently, she was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Education. Since 1983, she represents the constituency of Derby South in the House. In 1992 she became the first woman vice-chairman of their party. In 1994 she took over after the death of party leader John Smith for a few months as interim party chairman, but had to give it to Tony Blair. In 1997 she was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry, 1998 President of the House. As of June 8, 2001 she was Minister for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, before she was appointed on 5 May 2006 Minister of Foreign Affairs. This office she held the first woman.

After Gordon Brown became Prime Minister in 2007, he did not take over Margaret Beckett as Secretary of State.
