Margaret Hoelzer

Margaret Josephine Hoelzer ( born March 30, 1983 in Huntsville, Alabama) is an American swimmer.

Career

With the World Swimming Championships in Melbourne in 2007 she became world champion in the 200 m backstroke. Even with the short-course world championships in 2004 and 2006, she was able to win over their parade route the 200 m backstroke gold. In the Short Course World Championships 2008 in Manchester then had to concede defeat over this distance Kirsty Coventry and captured only the bronze medal. But just three months later, at the Olympic trials in the U.S., she cared for a big surprise when she with the victory over the 200m backstroke Coventry the long course world record temporarily decreased.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Hoelzer won the silver medal in the 200m backstroke and bronze in the 100m backstroke.
