Margaret Leighton

Margaret Leighton ( born February 26, 1922 in Barnt Green, Worcestershire, England; † January 13, 1976 in Chichester, Sussex, England) was a British actress.

Leighton was four times nominated for the Tony Award and won two Tony Awards for Broadway performances as " Best Actress in a Drama ": ". The Night of the Iguana " in 1957 for " Separate Tables " and in 1962 for Tennessee Williams' In the same category she was nominated for Shakespeare's " Much Ado About Nothing" (1960) and " Tchin - Tchin " (1963).

For her role in Hamlet ( 1970) she won the Emmy Award for outstanding performance of a Supporting Actress in a Drama. For four episodes of the series Dr. Kildare (1966 ) she was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding individual performance of a lead actress in a drama.

For her role as Mrs. Maudsley in The Go- Between ( 1970), she won the British Film Award for " Best Supporting Actress ". She received a nomination for the British Film Academy Award for " Best British Actress " for her role as Valerie Carrington in Carrington, VC (1955) and was nominated for The Go-Between 1971 as " Best Supporting Actress " for the Oscar.

1971 Leighton was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, but still working. Also from 1975, when she could no longer walk, she did not stop to play on. She died the following year in Sussex.

Leighton was married three times: with Michael Wilding (1964 - January 13, 1976 ), Laurence Harvey ( 1957-1961 ) and Max Reinhardt (1947 - 1955).
