Margaret Matthews

Margaret Matthews ( Matthews Rejean Margaret, married Wilburn; * August 5, 1935 in Griffin, Georgia) is a former American sprinter and long jumper.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 she divorced in the long jump in the qualification, but won in the 4 x 100 meters relay with the U.S. team in the cast Mae Faggs, Matthews, Wilma Rudolph and Isabelle Daniels the bronze medal.

In 1959 she won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Chicago in the long jump.

In 1958, she was with her personal best of 11.1 s U.S. champion in the 100 yards. In the long jump she won three national titles ( 1956-1958 ). She set four national records in this discipline, most recently with 6.18 m on August 6, 1958 in Budapest.

Margaret Matthews graduated from Tennessee State University. Her son Barry Wilburn was a successful professional American football player.
