Margaret Turnbull

Margaret Carol Turnbull is an American astronomer from the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore. She received her doctoral degree ( PhD) in Astronomy in 2004 from the University of Arizona. Turnbull's specialties is " Habstars " (stars that seem suitable, favorable conditions for life has to offer ), " solar twins " and habitability of planets.

In 2002, she developed along with Jill Tarter HabCat. This is a catalog containing solar systems that accommodate theoretically life or might be habitable. The following year, were by Turnbull from the list that up to 100 Lj contains over 5000 stars distance, 30 particularly suitable appearing star selected.

2006 Margaret Turnbull presented an even shorter list of only two times five stars. The first five are to be the basis for the SETI, the radio waves with the Allen Telescope Array scans. These are ( Asterion, HD 10307, HD 211 415, 18 Scorpii and 51 Pegasi ). The second list should contain the top candidates for the Terrestrial Planet Finder ( Epsilon Indi, Epsilon Eridani, 40 Eridani, Alpha Centauri B and Tau Ceti ).

The asteroid 7863 Turnbull was named after her.
