Margareta Eriksdotter Vasa

Margarete Eriksdotter Wasa (* 1497, † December 31, 1536 in Reval (now Tallinn) ), ( swedish Margareta Eriksdotter Vasa, also Margaret of Hoya ) was a Swedish nobleman and sister of King Gustav I of Sweden.

Life

Margaret was the daughter of Erik Johansson Vasa and Cecilia Månsdotter Eka. On March 30, 1516, she married the nobles and Imperial Council Joakim Brahe, who was 1520, killed along with her father at the Stockholm Bloodbath. Margaret and her mother, grandmother, her sisters and her aunt Christina Gyllenstierna were captured and locked in Copenhagen in the so-called Blue Tower.

After her brother Gustav was elected in 1523 to the king of Sweden, 1524 Margaret returned to their release back to their home country. On January 15, 1525, she married the German count and army commander John of Hoya, the governor of Vyborg was.

During the feud Johann Graf von Hoya died on June 11, 1535 at a battle on Funen. After conflicts with her brother left Margarete Sweden because they feared he might get killed their sons. She died in Reval and was buried in the cathedral there.
