Margarita

The margarita is a cocktail based on tequila. It is often served with salt on the glass rim.

According to the classical type, the Margarita is made ​​of 2 parts tequila, 1 part triple sec ( orange liqueur ) and 1 part lime juice mixed. A salt rim on the glass caused by the fact that the glass edge is first dipped in lime juice and then into salt. In addition, there are numerous variants such as the Strawberry Margarita with fresh strawberries or strawberry syrup, sometimes served with a sugar rim on the glass.

There are different assumptions about the timing and circumstances of the invention of the cocktail. It is often stated that the Margarita was invented in 1920-1940 in the U.S. or Mexico. One of the stories, according to the Mexican bartender Carlos Herrera invented the drink in 1938 or 1939 and named it after the showgirl Marjorie King. Another source reported that the cocktail was first mixed in 1938 and was named after a showgirl named Margarita de la Rosa from Guadalajara.
