Margerides

Margerides ( Marjarida in Occitan ) is a commune with 271 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Plateau Bortois.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the left side of the Diège. The Diège Dam Barrage of Chaumette is located about three kilometers to the southwest.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 70 kilometers south-west, Ussel about 15 kilometers north-west, and Bort- les- Orgues about twelve kilometers south-east.

Neighboring communities of Margerides are Saint -Bonnet- près- Bort in the north, Saint- Julien- près- Bort in the east, Roche -le- Peyroux in the south and Saint- Victour in the West.

Traffic

The village is located about 17 kilometers south-east of junction 23 of the A89 autoroute.

  • The church of Saint -Martin, a Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture from the 12th century, is classified as a monument historique since 1 August 1975.
  • In 1965, the remains of a pagan temple were discovered from Gallo- Roman times and archaeologically explored. Classified the plant as of 19 December 1984 as a monument historique.
