Margita Figuli

Margita Figuli ( born October 2, 1909 in Vyšný Kubin, Austria - Hungary, † March 27, 1995 in Bratislava, Slovakia; pseudonyms: Morena, Morena Oľga ) was a Slovak writer, translator and author of children's literature.

Life

Figuli was born into a peasant family and was the hometown Vyšný Kubin, then schooled in Dolny Kubin and Banská Bystrica. Your attempt to study painting in Prague, but failed. Between 1928-1941 she worked at Tatrabanka as an English correspondent until she was dismissed in 1941 for political reasons and then they only devoted himself to literature.

For her body of work she received in 1964 the title zaslúžilá umelkyňa ( " deserved artist " ), 1974 then the higher title Národná umelkyňa (national artist ). Both titles but was canceled after the Velvet Revolution in 1990 by law.

Works

Figuli is an actress of Slovak naturalism and wrote short stories and novels. Already since 1930, published in the journal Slovenská Neděla and later in magazines Elán, Slovenské pohľady, Živena and more. In the earlier works, topics are represented from the margins of society, later it is love, compassion and current social problems. They also sometimes translated Czech authors ( Karel Čapek, Karel Jaromír Erben and others).
