History
The first written mention of the town dates from 15 May 1364 when the Archbishop of Gniezno Jarosław Skotnicki and the Bishop of Posen January Doliwa agreed that the parish Margonin should belong to the diocese of Posen. 1402 Margonin received its town charter. During the Polish -Swedish War the city was destroyed in 1655. On July 20, 1696, the scenic town charter was granted again. 1725 an orphanage was built. In a storm in 1737 the church was severely damaged and thus built between 1753-1755 again. In the First Partition of Poland, the city fell to Prussia, interrupted by the period of membership of the Duchy of Warsaw from 1807 to 1815. Starting from 1905, the city of gas lamps were lit. In 1908 it was connected to the railway network of Gołańcz after Chodzież. On 5 September 1939, the Wehrmacht marched into Margonin. The occupation ended on 22 January 1945. In an administrative reform came to town in 1975 to the newly formed Province Pila. This was dissolved in 1998 and the town came to the Wielkopolska Region.

The city is crossed by the voivodship roads 190 and 193. The city is located about seven kilometers north Szamocin. The airport Lawica located about 60 kilometers south of Margonin.
