Margrave Frederick William of Brandenburg-Schwedt (1714–1744)

Frederick William of Brandenburg- Schwedt ( born March 28, 1715September 12, 1744 in Prague) was a Prussian major general and commander of the Guards on foot.

He was the son of Albrecht Friedrich of Brandenburg- Schwedt and his wife Maria Dorothea of Courland ( 1684-1743 ).

Life

Already in May 1719 he was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle. From 1734 he took part as a volunteer in the campaigns of the Prussian army, as well as on the first Silesian War, where he was wounded at the Battle of minor joke. His older brother Frederick has fallen in this battle. He was first lieutenant colonel in the regiment, which led his brother Karl Friedrich Albrecht of Brandenburg- Schwedt. As in 1740 from the Infantry Regiment No. 15, the Guard was established on foot, he was its first colonel. On May 16, 1743, he became major general and commander of the guard. During the siege of Prague in 1744 he commanded the trenches, killed him as a cannon ball in the presence of the king.

His body was transferred to Berlin and buried in the Hohenzollern crypt in the cathedral.
