Marguerite Duras
Marguerite Duras [ maʀgə'ʀit dy'ʀas ] ( born April 4, 1914 in Gia Định in Saigon, Vietnam (then French Indochina ) as Marguerite Donnadieu, † 3 March 1996 in Paris) was a French author, screenwriter and film director.
Life
Marguerite Donnadieu, daughter of a teacher couple, Marguerite Duras later called himself after the family seat of the father in the Dordogne, grew up in Vietnam and went in 1932 with 17 years to France, then to study in Paris initially Mathematics law and political science. She was active with Philippe Roques for a resurgence of the French colonial empire, then joined in 1940 but a Résistancegruppe of booksellers to, so they had access to rationed paper and also the later French president François Mitterrand met. Her husband Robert Antelme, who was also active in the Resistance, was arrested by the Gestapo and deported to the Dachau concentration camp. In 1944 the Parti Communiste français in Duras. Later, they protested against the treatment of writers in the Soviet Union, which led to their expulsion from the party in 1950. Much like her mother, Madame Marie Donnadieu was overwhelmed with the education of their children Pierre, Paul and Marguerite, so turn Marguerite Duras had with her son Jean of education ( Outa, born 1947), the greatest difficulty that led to their surroundings, they urged to give him to a boarding school.
Work
Her first novel, Les impudents (1943 ), was overlooked by the public, more or less. Already her second work, however, Un barrage contre le Pacifique (1950), was a success and won almost a the Prix Goncourt. International recognition they finally achieved in 1959 with the screenplay for the film Hiroshima, mon amour. The script is for a special reason still remarkable: Duras addressed for the first time the treated until the 1990s as a state-wide taboo behavior of French women during the occupation to have in fact taken up with the German soldiers on love relationships.
Her novels were always influenced autobiographical, such as L' amant (1984, dt The Lover ) or L' amant de la Chine du Nord (1991, German The lovers from Northern China). In both works she described her turbulent childhood and her early love experiences in Indochina the first half of the 20th century.
The author has also worked for the theater and wrote in 1965, for example, the drama La musica. In the 70s and early 80s of the 20th century, it came as a film director in appearance, where they not only already published their own texts ( India Song, 1975; Les enfants, 1984) brought to the big screen, but also independent works for the cinema produced (Le Camion, 1977). Characteristic of their language is a great simplicity in vocabulary and sentence structure, which is also characterized by its numerous ellipses, allusions, unspoken, but which stands in the background, as well as fragmentary assembled sets.
