Maria Carta

Maria Carta (* June 24, 1934 in Siligo ( province of Sassari); † September 22, 1994 in Rome) was an Italian actress and singer.

Maria Carta was primarily a singer and songwriter music from Sardinia. Her songs she sang mainly in the Sardinian language.

As an actress, she appeared in 9 movies. Her acting debut was in 1974 in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather - Part II". The German-speaking audience will be more common Maria Cartas performance as Martha in Franco Zeffirelli " Jesus of Nazareth " (1977).

Apart from these two major productions she appeared in small television roles with. In the Swiss / French film " Derborence " of 1985, she came not only as an actress in appearance, but also composed the music.

In the last years of her life Maria Carta worked at the University of Bologna, where she led seminars and supervised students when writing their theses.

In 1991 she was nominated President of the Republic Francesco Cossiga " Commendatore della Repubblica " ( Knight of the Italian Republic ).

Their last concert held Maria Carta in Toulouse (France) on 30 June 1994. She died of cancer in their Roman apartment on 22 September 1994 at age 60.
