Maria Chapdelaine
Maria Chapdelaine is the title of first released in 1914 in a newspaper and published as a book in 1916 novel by Louis Hémon ( 1880-1913 ). Only after the death of the author, the book became an international success, translated into many languages and filmed several times.
Content
Maria, the protagonist of the novel, grew up in the very rural and secluded environment Peribonkas in Québec ( Canada). The novel depicts the hard life of privation settlers who constantly work your way in the wilderness and make the soil fertile. Mary, the eldest daughter of such a settler family, is of marriageable age and must choose between three " suitors " that anyone could be of interest to them and their lives in his own way.
