María Conchita Alonso

María Conchita Alonso ( born June 29, 1957 in Cienfuegos, Cuba ) is an American actress and singer of Cuban descent.

Life and achievements

The parents of Alonso, Ricardo Alonso and Conchita Bustillo, moved to Venezuela when she was five years old. She grew up in Caracas. In 1971 she became Miss Teenager of the World, in 1975, Miss Venezuela. She played in some produced in Venezuela films and television series. In 1982 she moved to the United States.

As a member of the musical group Ámbar since 1979 and as an independently occurring singer since 1982 Alonso received three nominations for the Grammy Award.

The first produced in the U.S. film with Alonso was the comedy Moscow on the Hudson (1984 ), in which she starred opposite Robin Williams one of the main roles. In the thriller The Running Man (1987 ) she played alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the film drama House of the Spirits (1993 ) she appeared alongside Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, Winona Ryder and Antonio Banderas.

For his role in the thriller Caught - Victim of Desire (1996 ) Alonso was nominated in 1997 for the Independent Spirit Award. For his role in the television drama The Power of Darkness ( 1998), she won the 1999 ALMA Award.

Alonso received U.S. citizenship in October 2005.
