Maria Gabriella Sagheddu

Maria Gabriella Sagheddu (* 1914 in Dorgali in Sardinia, † April 23, 1939 in Grottaferrata ) was an Italian Trappist and is revered in the Catholic Church as Blessed.

As a child - she was the daughter of a shepherd family - she was said to be short-tempered and rebellious according to witnesses, at age 18 but took her character a conversion. At age 21, she decided to dedicate her life to God and entered on the advice of her confessor at the Trappists. When her mother Upper M. Pia Gullini auftrug the sisters, to pray for the unity of Christians, Mary felt the desire to give even their lives for this cause. She died at the age of 25 during a Vespers of tuberculosis. Her memory was quickly spread and in 1957 it was discovered that her body had remained intact. Her remains were then transferred to the monastery in Vitorchiano.

Pope John Paul II beatified on 25 January 1983. In his ecumenical encyclical Ut Unum Sint, he reached the concern Maria Gabriella's on:
