Maria Golopenţa

Maria Alexandru ( born December 30, 1939 in Plugova as Maria Golopenta ) is a Romanian table tennis player. She took 1953-1980 several titles in European and World Championships.

Successes in Eastern Europe

From 1962 to 1979 she won the Romanian Cup 15 times in singles and 16 times in duplicate ( with the following partners: once Georgita Pitica, three times Ella Zeller- Constantinescu, three times Eleonora Mihalca, once Magdalena Leszay, twice Carmen Crisan, three times Viorica Moldovan and three times Liana Mihuţ ).

In the Balkan Championships, she was represented 1963-1979 14 times. She was the single winner eight times, five times it ranked second in the double they got 11 tracks, twice she lost in the final. Seven wins and four runner-up were her mixed- balance. In addition there were 13 first places with the Romanian team.

European Tournaments

1956 and 1958 she participated in the European Youth Championships. Here she won every time the title in singles, a double and with the team, also in 1958 nor in the mixed competition.

In adults, it was represented ten times on the European Championships. In 1966 she was in London European champion in single (before Svetlana Grinberg ), 1976, she reached the final. In doubles, she won the title in 1960 ( with Angelica Rozeanu ) and 1978 ( with Liana Mihut ), 1974 and 1980, she came in second place. In 1960 she went on to win the Mixed ( with Gheorghe Cobirzan ).

For the European ranking tournament Europe Top 12, she was nominated seven times 1972-1979. They each took 2nd place 1972 ( behind Beatrix Kisházi ), 1974 ( behind soybean Rudnowa ) and 1979 ( behind Gabriella Szabó ).

World Championships

Twelve times she represented Romania at the World Championships, in 1953 in Bucharest, most recently with nearly 39 years in 1979 in Pyongyang. Here she was three times world champion in doubles: 1961 Georgita Pitica, 1973, Miho Hamada (Japan) and 1975 with Shoko Takahashi (Japan). The Vice World Cup they won in 1963 in singles, 1969 doubles with Eleonora Vlaicov - Mihalca and 1971 in mixed with Antun Stipančić.

End of career

In 1980 she finished her international career. This year, she has been committed in Germany from the VSC Donauwörth for the ladies league. At the end of the season 1980/81 she went back to Romania.
