Maria Holst

Maria Holst ( born April 2, 1917 in Vienna, † October 8, 1980 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian theater and film actress.

She attended drama school in Prague and the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. In 1935, she debuted at the State Theatre in Linz and moved a year later to the Theater an der Wien. In 1937 she played at the Municipal Theatre in Brno, from 1938 it belonged to the ensemble of the Vienna Burgtheater. During this time she became a major theater actress. She was the Gloria in George Bernard Shaw's You never know (1939 ), Wlasta in Franz Grillparzer's Libuse (1941 ), Elisabeth in Friedrich Schiller's Don Carlos ( 1942), Prothoe in Heinrich von Kleist's Penthesilea (1943) and Portia in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice ( 1943).

Already at age 19, she starred in the first films, such as in Lumpacivagabundus with Heinz Rühmann the Amorosa. But they became famous only in 1940, when she in the historical film operetta singer Marie Geistinger represented directed by Willi Forst. They celebrated a similar success a year later when, again under Forst Director, the focus of the film operetta Wiener Blut was.

In the 50s, they received important supporting roles in several productions typical of the time this year as Green is the Heath, The Trapp Family.

Maria Holst married in 1944 the painter and graphic artist Eugen Graf Ledebur. After the divorce, she was married to the Berlin physician Dr. Rudolf Roettger ( 1919-1976 ). From this marriage the daughter Elizabeth was bold (* 1957).

In 1980 she tragically choked while eating. She was buried in Berlin at the cemetery military road in the Berlin district of Westend.
