Maria of the Palatinate-Simmern

Anna Maria of the Palatinate ( born July 24, 1561 Heidelberg, † July 29, 1589 in Eskilstuna ) was a Countess Palatine of simmering and Princess of the Palatinate and by marriage Swedish Crown Princess.

Life

Anna Maria was the eldest daughter of the Elector Ludwig VI. of the Palatinate (1539-1583) from his marriage to Elizabeth (1539-1582), daughter of Count Philipp I of Hesse.

During a visit with her father held Duke Charles of Södermanland, who afterwards became Swedish King Charles IX. , By the hand of the 15 -year-old princess. This was in 1577 traveled to Germany to look around among the Protestant prince daughters for a suitable bride. On May 11, 1579 wedding took place in Heidelberg.

Anna Maria was described as always sickly and weak constitution. Their marriage was considered to be extremely happy and Karl was very attached to his Calvinist wife, which brought him to the Swedish clergy into a reputation almost stand this faith. A portrait of the bishop of her ( in the Palatinate Museum of the City of Heidelberg ) is a petite young woman of 18 years with brünettem hair. It was considered a mild and devout. The Crown Princess was buried in the cathedral at Strängnäs.
