Maria Schneider (actress)

Maria Schneider ( born March 27, 1952 in Paris as Christine Marie Gélin; † February 3, 2011 ibid ) was a French actress.

Life

Maria Schneider was the daughter of coming from Romania French Models and bookseller Marie Christine Schneider and film actor Daniel Gélin, she was educated until the age of 15 alone by her mother. Schneider then moved to Paris in 1969 and had their first performances in theater and film.

World famous was the then 20 -year-old through the film Last Tango in Paris by Bernardo Bertolucci, in which she starred opposite Marlon Brando starred. The very permissive role was for her future acting career, however, rather then a problem since they first got almost offered only similar roles.

The sudden fame and its consequences ( she scandals were imputed, in addition it has been doubted that Gélin was her father) she coped very difficult. Most of all she valued her role in the feature film Profession: reporter (1975 ), in which she accompanied the reporter depicted by Jack Nicholson on his last journey to his death.

In 1976 she left the filming of the movie in 1900 by Bernardo Bertolucci and got out of the project altogether. Due to alcohol and drug excesses she was finally treated in mental hospitals and had to take withdrawal cures up. In 1989, she returned to film work.

Maria Schneider died at the age of 58 years from the effects of cancer. Schneider was cremated at Pere Lachaise crematorium and her ashes on the Atlantic coast at the foot of the Jungfrau Rock ( Rocher de la Vierge ) distributed in Biarritz.
