Maria Sophia of Neuburg

Marie Elisabeth Sophie of the Palatinate ( born August 6 1666 Benrath in Dusseldorf, † August 4, 1699 in Lisbon ) was by marriage Queen of Portugal.

Life

Marie Sophie was the daughter of the Elector Philipp Wilhelm of the Palatinate (1615-1690) from his second marriage with Elisabeth Amalie (1635-1709), daughter of the Landgrave George II of Hesse -Darmstadt. Marie Sophie received a comprehensive not only scientific, but also a sound musical education. The religious education of the Princess was for a Jesuit.

She had sixteen siblings, including the Elector Palatine Johann Wilhelm and Karl III.
