Mária Telkes

Maria Telkes ( born December 12, 1900 in Budapest, † December 2, 1995 in Budapest) was a Hungarian- American scientist who worked in the field of solar energy and researched.

Life and work

Maria Telkes studied physical chemistry and a doctorate in this subject at the University of Budapest. After that, she emigrated to the United States. She has worked and conducted research at Westinghouse Electric Corporation and later at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Together with the architect Eleanor Raymond developed Maria Telkes 1948, the first heated by solar energy house. The Dover Sun House was the first house in which a passive solar energy concept was realized. Even without active photo volt Aryan elements came the house due to its special construction made without heating.
