Caught in the Dark is a British thriller from 2005. The plot is based on a true story.

Action

Prior to his marriage with his current wife Chris had a romance with Marian, his childhood sweetheart. One day she disappears without a trace and no longer answers. After 15 years, he meets her by chance in a supermarket when he asks for directions. They are, however, the right not to know him and runs away from him.

A plumber will be ordered in the family home in order to repair the washing machine. Following repair, the man asks the father Chris to be able to use the toilet - a pretext. For indeed, he sneaks into the nursery the oldest daughter and wrote down the number of your mobile phone, which he finds on her bedside table.

Henceforth, the man sends her many SMS with his declarations of love. Also packages with expensive gifts he sends to her home. The parents learn from this dubious history and are worried about her daughter. Her father moves out of fear of a possible hijacking to school and pick them from there from again.

Later, Chris tells his wife of his former romance. He studied at Marian in her supposed home and gives her a pebble that he had then picked up with her at the beach. In this way he wants to refresh their memory. Marian remembers the happy time with her ​​puppy love and decides to call Chris and tell him the terrible truth about her abduction.

One night gives the plumber access to the family home, penetrates into the girl's room, and stunning them with chloroform. Tied up and gagged he puts the girl in a sack and wants to leave the house. As the masked man is already on the stairs down, he is being watched by the youngest daughter. In the belief that if they were Santa Claus, the girl tells of the encounter. After initial doubts of the father searched all the rooms after his daughter. When he can not find it, he calls on the family of one of their classmates and asked about the whereabouts of his daughter.

Chris learns that his daughter has recently used the cell phone of the friend. It checks the SMS and identifies the number of the caller. Using some keywords like "magician" he comes to the plumbing business " abracadabra ". He immediately goes to the relevant address and breaks the entrance door. He finds his daughter locked in a chamber under the floor and freed them. But the plumber is behind them and tried to prevent her from walking, by attacking the father and chokes.

Meanwhile succeeds Marian to escape from the tank. They attacked their tormentors with a hammer and beats as long as his head until it finally falls to the ground dead.
