Marian Woronin

Marian Jerzy Woronin ( born August 13, 1956 in Szczecin) is a former Polish athlete. At a height of 1.86 m his competition weight was 82 kg.

On June 9, 1984 Marian Woronin ran in Warsaw the 100 meters in 10.00 seconds and thus beat the old European record, the Pietro Mennea had set up at the height of Mexico City. As Voronin managed this record, he was for years a fixture in the 100 -meter run and in the shorter sprint over 50 or 60 meters in the hall.

In European Indoor Championships Voronin had given in 1975 with 18 years in fourth his international debut. On a bronze medal in 1977 and a fourth place in 1978 followed from 1979 to 1982 four European titles. At the end of his career, in 1987 he once again European Indoor champion.

Voronin launched in 1976 for the first time in the Olympic Games. About 100 meters he came into the semi-finals, with the Polish 4 x 100 meters relay he finished fourth. Four years later, at the Games in Moscow, he was about 100 meters and 200 meters respectively seventh. With the season he won the silver medal behind the relay from the Soviet Union.

At the European Championships in 1978, he won gold in the relay. Four years later at the European Championships 1982, he was with the fifth season, but won the bronze medal over 100 meters. In his only World Championship 1983, he was with the season in sixth place.

At the request of the children, he received the International Award as a Cavalier of the Order of the Smile.
