Marianne Brandt (contralto)

Marianne Brandt ( born September 12, 1842 in Vienna as Marie Bishop, † July 9, 1921 ibid ) was an Austrian contralto. She looked especially at the Berlin Court Opera, and has performed at numerous houses in Europe and America. It was especially appreciated as an interpreter of Wagner and because of their remarkable vocal range, which also allowed her soprano roles.

Life

Trained in her hometown of Vienna, it was in 1868 after a sensational guest appearance at the Berlin Court Opera as Fides in " Prophet " by Meyerbeer and as Azucena in " Il Trovatore " firmly committed. At the Berlin house she worked until 1886 as first alto.

1869-70 she studied again in Baden -Baden with Pauline Viardot -Garcia. Your she has appeared in 1872-1883 to London and Vienna. Since 1884, she also gained great success at New York's Metropolitan Opera, where she appeared in her career total of 160 times and in 18 different roles. More she has appeared in the next four years on the stages of Rotterdam, Munich, Mannheim, Kassel, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Basel, Graz, Brno and Riga.

1890, she returned to her hometown of Vienna, where she worked as a singing teacher and appeared in the concert hall. In 1921 she died at an advanced age and was in an honorary dedicated grave in the cemetery Hadersdorf- Weidlingau ( Division 1, Group N, number 9) buried.
