Marianne MacDonald

Marianne MacDonald ( born July 9, 1934 in Kenora, Ontario ) is a Canadian children's author, crime writer and playwright.

Life

Marianne MacDonald grew up in Winnipeg and Montreal. She studied at McGill University and at the University of Oxford. Then they went in a academic career, she taught at the Universities of Toronto, Keele and Middlesex. She gave an academic career in favor of writing. Today she lives with her husband, with whom she has two sons, in the London Borough of Haringey.

Creation

Marianne MacDonald published at the age of 16 years, her first children's book and is still active as a children's book author. Since 1996, she has published a series of detective novels, whose protagonist is the Antiquarin and single mother Dido Hoare. Until now (2011), this cycle has grown to eight volumes; for the translations into the German language recorded next to Sabine Schwabe and Lilian Goedefrey - Greeven responsible above all Marie Hahn.

In its antiquarian bookshop Dido Hoare repeatedly encounters shady characters and historical manuscripts that are involved in criminal cases. Dido's father Barnabas Hoare, a former intelligence official and professor emeritus of English literature, who can assist in the investigation. Other regularly occurring characters are Dido's sister Pat, the nanny Phyllis Digby and the student Ernie Weekes. Although the individual novels are self-contained, there are plot lines that run through the entire series.

MacDonald Drama Liar Liar 1992 premiered at London's Etcetera Theatre.
