Marianne Thieme

Marianne Thieme ( born March 6, 1972 in Ede, Gelderland ) is a Dutch animal rights activist, journalist and politician. It is the leading force of the Partij voor de Dieren, The Netherlands represents them in the House of Commons as a parliamentary leader, and author of Animal Welfare issues.

Training

Thieme attended college in Door Werth and then studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, and from Erasmus University Rotterdam law with a focus on administrative law, with a particular interest the " animal rights " was. During this time she was also a vegetarian.

Career

After her studies she worked from 1998 to 2001 in a research institute of the B & A Group in The Hague operates. From 2001 to 2004 she worked at the Foundation Bond voor Dieren (Federation for animals). In October 2002, she founded along with other animal rights activists, the Partij voor de Dieren ( PvdD ). From June 2003 to November 2010 she served as party chairman.

In the parliamentary elections of 2003, it was the first time the leading candidate PvdD; the party won only 47,754 votes (0.5 percent) and no mandate. In the parliamentary elections of 2006 she made with 1.8 percent of the vote for the first time jump into the Dutch lower house and is there since then with two seats represented (the other Member is Esther Ouwehand ). In the European elections in 2004 and 2009, the party narrowly failed, even though she could achieve more than three percent of the vote each.

From 2004 to 2006 was director of the Wakker Dier Thieme Foundation, an animal welfare organization that is active mainly in the bio-industry.

Marianne Thieme lives in Maarssen Utrecht, is married and has two daughters.
