Marias River

The Marias River is a left tributary of the Missouri River in the U.S. state of Montana.

The Marias River is 338 km long and is formed by the confluence of Cut Bank Creek and the Two Medicine River in Blackfoot Indian Reservation, east of Glacier National Park. The water flows to the east by the educated from the Tiber Dam Reservoir Lake Elwell and ends at the village of Loma in Missouri.

The Marias River is below the Tiber Dam to its confluence with the Missouri River is a popular river for whitewater kayakers, which is rated as easy to Class I. It is also used for other recreational activities.

The river was named in 1805 by the expedition of Lewis and Clark, who held the Marias River first for the main branch of the Missouri. The river was named after Mary Wood, a cousin of Meriwether Lewis.
