Marie of Luxembourg, Queen of France

Mary of Luxembourg (* 1305, † March 21, 1324 in Issoudun ) was by marriage to Charles IV, Queen of France.

Life

Mary was born in 1305 as the daughter of the later Holy Roman Emperor Henry VII and his wife Margaret of Brabant. She was also the sister of the Bohemian King John of Bohemia. They married on September 21, 1322 in Provins the French King Charles IV, and became his second wife after Charles first marriage to Blanche of Burgundy on May 19, 1322 by Pope John XXII. had been canceled. This second marriage until the beginning of 1322 came to power third and youngest son of Philip IV should strengthen the alliances of the Capetians in eastern France.

1323 Maria gave birth to a daughter, Marguérite. She was pregnant again when she had an accident with her horse-drawn carriage on the hard drive back from a stay of the royal family in Toulouse. She was sent to Issoudun, but suffered a premature birth; her son Louis lived only a few hours. Maria succumbed to the changes brought about by the fall injuries and died on March 21, 1324 at the age of only 19 years. She was buried in the Dominican church at Montargis.
