Marielle de Sarnez

Marielle de Sarnez ( born March 27, 1951 at the 7th arrondissement of Paris ) is a French politician, member of the European Parliament since 1999, Deputy Chairman of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and the French party Mouvement démocrate.

Life

Marielle de Sarnez began her involvement in politics to support the candidacy of Valéry Giscard d' Estaing in the presidential election in 1974. She also worked actively in the founding of the party UDF.

In the 1970s and 1980s, she worked successively with Jean Lecanuet, Simone Veil and Raymond Barre.

From 1993 to 1997 she was a consultant of François Bayrou and then worked with him in the Ministry of Education as the Secretary of Education. Since then she has remained close to him politically. In 1999 she became a member of the European Parliament. Co-founder of the European Democratic Party ( EDP), she was elected again in 2004. Furthermore, she was elected councilor of Paris in 2001 and 2006 to the Chairman of the Paris UDF Association.

In 2007, she led the campaign François Bayrou's presidential election. She was candidate of the UDF démocrate Mouvement in Paris for the general election and received 11.9 percent of the vote. Also in 2007, she was the top candidate for the local elections in Paris: your party Mouvement démocrate received 9.08 percent of the vote.

In 2009 she was appointed as the top candidate in the constituency of Ile- de -France in the 2009 European election and chairs the election campaign of the Mouvement démocrate.

Activity as MEP

De Sarnez is deputy chairman of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and Member of the Committee on International Trade and in the Delegation to the ACP -EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
