Mariinsk

Marinsk (Russian Мариинск ) is a city in central Siberian Kemerovo Oblast (Russia) with 40 526 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies in the plane of the Kuznetsk Alatau north, about 140 kilometers northeast ( straight line ) of the Oblasthauptstadt Kemerovo, on the left Chulym Creek Kiya.

Marinsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons Marinsk.

History

1698 was built in place of a urspränglich selkupischen settlement as the second- oldest Russian city in the region ( to Kuznetsk ), named after the river village Kijskoje ( Кийское ). In the 18th century the Moscow wing was led through the village.

1856 Kijskoje was raised as an administrative center of Tomsk okrugs of the government to the city. In 1857 the city received in honor of Empress Maria Alexandrovna - Wife of Alexander II and born Marie of Hesse -Darmstadt - its current name.

The construction of the Trans-Siberian railway through the village end of the 19th century importance and population continued to grow.

From 1929 to 1960, the prison camp Siblag existed ( Sibirski ITL Siberian camp ) in the Gulag system, whose administration was located over the largest period in Marinsk (temporarily in Novosibirsk ). Here for example, was the astronomer Yevgeny Perepjolkin ( born 1932, also Perepelkin ) arrested after which the crater is named Perepelkin, and was shot dead on January 13, 1938 in Marinsk.

Culture and sights

In Marinsk there is a museum with an attached memorial museum of born in Marinsk Soviet writer Vladimir Tschiwilichin (1924-1981), who wrote a series mainly acting in Siberia works.

Marinsk is a major station on the Trans-Siberian Railway ( Route 3713 km from Moscow). It is the westernmost station of the regional railway administration Krasnoyarsk railway. The other route towards Novosibirsk belongs to the West -Siberian Railway.
