Marilyn Mazur

Marilyn Mazur ( born January 18, 1955 in New York City ) is a Danish jazz musician ( percussionist, drummer, composer, pianist, vocalist ).

Since the age of six living in Denmark she was first employed in the early seventies as a dancer and pianist in various dance groups. Simultaneously, she formed her first band in 1973. Most of their numerous percussion instruments she learned in the course of time in self-study. As a percussionist, she played first with Andreas Vollenweider, Charlie Mariano, but also with Irène Schweizer and the other musicians of the Feminist Improvising Group. From 1982 to 1984 she headed the all-female music and theater group Primi band; then she worked with John Tchicai and Pierre Dørge in the New Jungle Orchestra. From 1985 to 1989 was followed by their image formative commitment as permanent drummer of Miles Davis, which had its starting point in the run by Palle Mikkel Borg production of its board aura. Parallel she played with Gil Evans (1986 ) and Wayne Shorter (1987).

Then she played with her husband Klavs Hovmann and Peter Kowald (both on bass ) and singer Jeanne Lee in Group Life Principle. In 1989, she founded her fusion group Future Song with pianist Elvira plenary, the singer Aina Kemanis, trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer, Hovmann on bass and Audun Kleive as a second drummer. Additionally, later, the saxophonist Hans Ulrik in the group; the group sound was accentuated by guitarist Eivind Aarset. In its existing parallel group Percussion Paradise she plays along with the percussionists Benita Haastrup, Lisbeth Diers and Birgit Løkke, some still with singer Josefine Cronholm.

In addition, she worked with Mathias Rüegg and Simon Spang -Hanssen. She goes regularly since 1991 with Jan Garbarek on tour. In 1983 she received the Ben Webster Award 2001 and the highly doped Jazzpar Prize. In 2004 she was also honored with the Edition Wilhelm Hansen Prize, received the usually only classical composers.

Appeared at the end of 2010, two overdue albums of Marilyn Mazur Group as a double CD: " Tangled Temptations & The Magic Box ". " Tangled Temptations " includes the medley arranged accompaniment to Nullo Facchinis dance theater version of The Beggar's Opera, during "The Magic Box" is a regular studio release of the group. " Celestial Circle " is another project of Marilyn Mazur, which significantly shortens the electronics.
