Marímbula

The marímbula, also bass kalimba and R ( h) umba box called, is a lamellophones with resonance box. It originally comes from Africa and is now used especially in the Caribbean, as concerns in the son music.

There is often similar to a cajón from a wooden box with one or more large to medium resonance holes. Are projecting slats (metal strips ) that are plucked or struck with mallets on the front. The length of an average of eight lamellae determines the pitch.

There is no defined sound or a predetermined design. The instruments differ in their size, shape and material of the resonator, the number and the sound of the blades.

There are two common styles of play: The player sits on the instrument and plays the slats between his legs, or the instrument is in front of the player like a xylophone.
