Marin-Epagnier

Epagnier is a place in the community of La Tène in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland.

The place is located at the northeastern end of Lake Neuchatel at an altitude of 455 m above sea level. M. The district Epagnier also carries the German name Spaniz. The city is also because on the border between the German- and French-speaking regions of Switzerland. Prehistory

The areas on Lake Neuchâtel and along the present-day Zihl Canal were inhabited long before the first historical mentions, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds from the Stone and Bronze Ages. Best known is the square of La Tène finds that lies on the former church floor.

Between and under two bridges collapsed in 1857 and 1918 more than 2500 Celtic found objects have been recovered over the years. At the International Congress of Anthropology and Prehistoric Archaeology in Stockholm the name La Tène period was 1872 for this complex coined. History

Marin was first mentioned gave ( from Old French Maren, marshland or Latin Marianus ) in a document of 1163 in which the knight Pierre d' Epagnier the Abbey of Hauterive in the canton of Fribourg be Alleu de Maren.

In 1625, proposed the Count of Neuchâtel, Duke Henri II d' Orleans, to be based on the former municipality of Epagnier the city Henri Polis. In the 18th century the first factories were built in Marin. After the revolution of 1848 Neuchâtel Marin and Epagnier occurred in the Republic of Neuchâtel. 1888 merged Marin and Epagnier. Economy

Traffic

After the railway connection in 1900 Marin was connected in the 1970s to the transportation network of the Transports en commun de Neuchâtel et environs (TN). Tourism

1977 the municipality bought the territory of La Tène and took over the administration of the local campsite. For years, plans for improving the use ( and marketing) of the place are pending. In addition to the sandy beaches of La Tène the riparian forest and the forest of Epagnier peace-seekers offer an original walking and hiking area. A sports center offers tennis courts, squash and badminton courts and a mini golf.

Train

The first school in Marin was built by Louis Perrier, the father of the architect and later Federal Charles Perrier. Charles Perrier built around 1900 today Vieux Collège listed building. In addition, today there are the Collège Billeter ( secondary school) and Les Tertres. The latter offers gyms, classrooms, craft and plant rooms, a library / media center and a youth recreation center for about 500 children and young people.
