Marinus Kraus

Marinus Kraus ( born February 13, 1991 Oberaudorf ) is a German ski jumper. He was with the German team Olympic gold medalist at the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and the German junior team vice champion at the Junior World Championships in 2011 in the Estonian Otepaeae. He jumps for the WSV Oberaudorf and is chief of police at the federal police.

Career

Kraus began his career as a Nordic skier. In this sport, it was first used internationally with 14 years in a FIS race, after he had previously become German champions students. In addition to other FIS races he started mainly in the Alpine Cup. In 2007 he was German youth champion in the sprint and even at the ski jumping. Since he always jumping outperformed on the tracks, he decided in 2009 to only have to enter in the special jumping. His last international appearance in the Nordic combined he had on March 7, 2009 in Winterberg, when he took the 21st place in the sprint in a competition of the Alpine Cup.

22 August 2009 Kraus was first used at the summer competition in Lillehammer within the Continental Cup of ski jumpers. However, when 46 he dropped out in the first round. On 10 January 2010, he was 20 when first landing in Titisee- Neustadt in the points positions of these " second league" of the international ski-jumping sport. His first victory in the Continental Cup he ersprang well two years later when he won the jumping from Pine Mountain Jump in Iron Mountain in the U.S. state of Michigan for themselves.

When the Junior World Championships for the first time took place in January 2011 in the Estonian Otepaeae, Kraus was with Richard Friday, Daniel Little and Stephan Leyhe the German team that was able to secure the silver medal behind Austria on January 30. Two days earlier, he had become in the individual competition only 28. At the German Championships 2011 in Hinterzarten and 2012 in Klingenthal he could each be secured with the Bavarian team the team title.

After Kraus had already participated several times unsuccessfully to qualifying jump for the World Cup, he sat down in the qualification for the ski flying in Vikersund on January 26, 2013 for the first time through, as each 36th of the first round but could neither that day nor at the second jump a day later qualify for the final. In October 2013, Kraus was the first time German champion in the individual competition on the large hill in Oberstdorf and could also defend the title with the Bavarian team there. To kick off the World Cup season 2013/14 Kraus finished eighth in Klingenthal. During the subsequent competition in Kuusamo, he reached the second place 0.5 points behind Gregor Schlierenzauer his first podium place and also his best World Cup placing.

On February 17, 2014 he was at the Olympic Games Sochi 2014 together with Andreas Wank, Andreas Wellinger and Severin Freund Olympic champion in the team competition, after he had two days earlier, took sixth place in the individual competition on the large hill.

On March 1, 2014 Kraus was able to achieve with a second place in Lahti with the German team for the first time at a World Cup team event podium.
