Marinus of Tyre

Marinos of Tyre was an ancient Greek geographer, the end of the first and beginning of the second century AD lived.

His work is known almost exclusively by Ptolemy, but is quoted even by the Arab geographer Al- Mas'udi. Ptolemy built heavily upon the work of Marinos. Thus, Marinos had created a world map with detailed comments, which included topographic data and corrected earlier errors. This map were probably mainly sailors on reason, which had sent Marinos of Tyre removal information. He used for his map of the world coordinate system with eight climates and 15 meridians.

The lunar crater Marinus is named after him.
