Mario Almirante

Mario Almirante ( born February 18, 1890 in Molfetta, † September 30, 1964 in Rome ) was an Italian director and actor especially the silent film era.

Life

Almirante was the scion of a family of artists; his grandfather, Pasquale (1799-1863) lived from acting and also Mario's sibling Giacomo (1875-1944), Ernesto (1877-1964) and Luigi (1886-1963) took this job, also his cousin Italia Almirante Manzini. He began as a stage actor, where he worked with well-known spectacle the likes of Eleonora Duse and Ruggero Ruggeri until he moved into the film business as a director in 1920. He turned about 15 films in this era. With the advent of sound film and a few other films he pulled it back again in 1933. He later worked as a dubbing director.

His son Giorgio founded in 1946, the neo-fascist Movimento Sociale Italiano ( MSI).
