Mário Eloy

Mário Eloy de Jesus Perreira ( born March 15, 1900 in Algés, † September 5, 1951 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese painter of modern times. He was also active in Germany.

Life

Mário Eloy was born in a family of goldsmiths. After a short visit to the Escola de Belas Artas ( School of Fine Arts) he spent 1919 in Madrid. In 1924 he had his first solo exhibition. In the years 1925 to 1927 he lived in Paris. In 1927, he first traveled to Berlin until 1931, he shuttled constantly between Berlin and Lisbon, also published in Flechtheim " The cross-section " and had not several exhibitions in Berlin. From 1932 he remained permanently in Lisbon and never returned to Germany. His wife, his son and a number of his paintings remained in Berlin. In 1935 he was awarded the Premio Souza - Cardoso, one of the highest art awards in Portugal.

To him the most inspirational painters include Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro and Eduardo Viana.

Mental illness Eloy
