Mario Enrique Villarroel Lander

After studying law at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, he earned his LL.D. in criminology. He has currently a Professor of Criminal Law at the Universidad Santa María in Caracas and since 1978 president of the national Red Cross society of his native country. In 1987, he took over from Spaniard Enrique de la Mata Gorostizaga the office of President of the League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which was renamed during his tenure in November 1991 in International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He was succeeded by Astrid N. Heiberg 1997 from Norway. In addition, he was active in the years 1992/1993 as president of the Henry Dunant Institute in Geneva.

He is married and father of three sons and a daughter since 1969.
