Mario Haas ( born September 16, 1974 in Graz ) is a former Austrian football player at the position of a striker. Apart from two short activities abroad in France and Japan, he played most of his career at SK Sturm Graz. In addition, Haas ran 43 times for the Austrian national team, including at the 1998 World Cup in France.

Career

Club career

Mario Haas was ten years active in youth department of SK Sturm Graz before he played his first game for the professionals of the club in the spring of 1993. In the following years he played a big part in the two league titles in 1998 and 1999 and the three Austrian Cupsiegen (1996, 1997 and 1999). Together with Ivica Vastić and Hannes Reinmayr he made in this period of success, the so-called " magic triangle " of Sturm Graz. In the summer of 1999, he decided on his first foreign station and moved to France to Racing Strasbourg. There, however, he could not prevail, and therefore returned in the spring of 2001 returned to his hometown club.

During the winter break of the 2004/05 season his former coach Ivica Osim brought him to JEF United in Japan. With the club he was 2005 and 2006 Japanese Cup winner. From the spring of 2007, Mario Haas was playing for his tribe club Sturm Graz with which he could triumph in 2010 for the fourth time in the Austrian Cup. In the game against Kapfenberg SV on February 12, 2011, he appeared as a substitute and thus came to 412 times for the SK Sturm Graz in the Bundesliga on which he became the sole record holder of the team before Günther Neukirchner. At the end of the season 2010/11 Haas was charged with assault for the third time an Austrian football champions. Thus Mario Haas was involved in all three league titles and four Cupsiegen of Sturm Graz.

On 1 December 2012 Mario Haas finished with 38 years in the game Sturm Graz against Wiener Neustadt (3:1) his active career.

National

Mario Haas played 43 games for the Austrian national team. He made his debut on 27 March 1996 against Switzerland. Haas scored his first international goal on June 2, 1996 compared Liechtenstein. Three of his matches he played at the Football World Cup 1998 in France. He also shot the reigning world champions France in a friendly match in August 1998 the first goal since their World Cup success.

An offer Karel Brückner's return to the national team, he refused. Haas finished with it officially launched its National team career.
