Mario Lanzi

Mario Lanzi ( born October 10, 1914 in Castelletto sopra Ticino, † February 21, 1980, Schio ) was an Italian athlete who was successful in the 1930s and more than 800 m in the early 1940s. He won three medals at the European Championships and Olympic Games.

Mario Lanzi was the great opponent of the German Rudolf Harbig. Spectacular was the duel, which he delivered Harbig on July 15, 1939 in Milan at the world record in 1:46,6 minutes. Lanzi had the first 400 m happens in 52.4 seconds and was 100 meters before the finish line at the top. But then sat Harbig to the final sprint, which Lanzi could not follow.
