Mario Lega

Mario Lega ( born February 20, 1949 in Lugo di Romagna ( RA) ) is a former Italian motorcycle racer.

In the 1977 season he won Morbidelli the world title in the 250 cc class of the Motorcycle World Championship.

Career

Mario Lega debuted on the Yamaha 350 cc race at the Grand Prix of Nations in 1973 in the Motorcycle World Championship. Until 1975, he played for the Japanese manufacturers in various classes only seven Grand Prix, a second place in the Grand Prix of Nations in 1974 in the 350 cc class was doing his best result.

In the 1977 season the Italian started as a private driver to Yamaha. After compatriot and Morbidelli factory driver Paolo Pileri was injured in an accident at the Salzburg Ring, was engaged as his replacement for both the 250cc and 350cc class for the Mario Lega from the Nations Grand Prix in Monza. At Monza he achieved in both classes rank two. At the Grand Prix of Lega Yugoslavia in the 250 cc class celebrated the only Grand Prix win of his career, also get him yet another second and two third places in the 250s. By season's end, the Italian won with 85 points to 250 cc world title and referred his compatriots Franco Uncini and Walter Villa, both on Harley - Davidson, to the places.
