Mario Alberto Santana ( born December 25, 1981 in Comodoro Rivadavia ) is an Argentine football player.

Clubs

The midfielder began his career at CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina. Here he played a total of three seasons in the first team before he moved to Italy's Serie A during the 2001/02 season for AC Venice. To the next season Santana then moved to Palermo in Serie B, where he matured at first -team regular. Thanks to its impressive performance, he was lured away from the Serie A club Chievo Verona in 2003. However, when Palermo for season 2004/ 05 rose to the Serie A, Santana returned to his former club, where he has one of the most important team supports. For the season 2006/ 07 Santana moved to Serie A rivals Fiorentina.

National

Thanks to its consistently strong performance in U.S. Palermo Santana came on 18 August 2004 in a game against Japan (2-1) to its first use in the Argentine national team. As a result, he took part with the national team at the Confederations Cup in 2005 where Argentina reached the second place. In the World Cup season Santana has not been taken into account so far. He came so far in seven internationals for use.
