Marion County (Alabama)

Marion County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hamiltonian. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Alabama, on the west by the Mississippi and has an area of ​​1926 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Franklin County, Winston County, Walker County, Fayette County and Lamar County.

History

Marion County was formed on 13 February 1818. It was named after General Francis Marion of South Carolina. 1820 Hamilton became the district capital.
