Marion County (South Carolina)

Marion County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marion.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern South Carolina, is in the north about 15 miles from North Carolina away and has an area of 1280 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Dillon County, Horry County, Georgetown County, Williamsburg County and Florence County.

History

Marion County was formed in 1800. It was named after Francis Marion, also known as the Swamp Fox, a brigadier general of the South Carolina militia during the American Revolutionary War.
