Marion County (Tennessee)

Marion County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jasper.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Tennessee, on the south by Alabama and Georgia and has an area of ​​1327 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grunby County, Sequatchie County, Hamilton County, Dade County ( Georgia), Jackson County ( Alabama) and Franklin County.

History

Marion County was formed on November 20, 1817 from Cherokee country. It was named after Francis Marion, also known by his nickname Swamp Fox, a lieutenant colonel in the Continental Army and later brigadier general of the militia of South Carolina in the American Revolutionary War.
