Marios Varvoglis

Marios Varvoglis (Greek Μάριος Βάρβογλης; born December 10, 1885 in Brussels, † 30 July 1967 in Athens ) was a Greek composer.

Varvoglis studied from 1904 in Paris at the Conservatoire and the Schola Cantorum at Xavier Leroux, Georges Caussade and Vincent d' Indy. During his stay in Paris lasted until 1920 he was a friend of Maurice Ravel, Alfredo Casella, Edgar Varèse and the painter Amedeo Modigliani, who portrayed him as Le beau Marius.

Since 1924 he was a teacher of composition and music history at the Athens Conservatory, which he headed from 1937 together with Antiochus Evangelatos.

In addition to opera, he composed several orchestral pieces, a string suite, a Greek Caprice for Cello and Orchestra, chamber music, piano pieces, songs and incidental music.
